UK v USA: Fashion Face Off

June 10th, 2010

I’m not going to claim to be a football fan, but you can’t avoid it, it’s literally everywhere at the moment.

Luckily, the World Cup has managed to find a way into my life in a perfectly acceptable way – in the style stakes. Fashion website very.co.uk are holding a fashion face off to coincide with the World Cup games – putting styles inspired by the World Cup countries head to head and seeing who comes out on top. Up first is England vs USA with the British look embodying Kate Moss at Glastonbury with a summer parka, wellies, slouchy denim shorts and tees and of course
lots of lovely accessories including some fab retro sunglasses.

The USA look is the ‘preppy college girl’ style, which is actually quite nice too and has little touches like oversized check shirts, denim cut-off jeans and hoodies as well as sports style inspired footwear like Converse. In the style stakes though, I’ve stuck with supporting the home team! I think the British look is far better than the USA one but thinking about the upcoming countries that will be featured – Spain, Argentina and South Africa – I think we might have some trouble competing against flamenco inspired dresses and safari chic in the later rounds. You can vote now at the very.co.uk site for your favourite countries’ style and you might even be inspired to try out a new look – far better than watching the football any day.
