Flattering dresses for every body type
Here are several useful tips that can help you choose the right dresses to flatter every body type. So, read on.
Bottom-heavy figure
If you have a bottom-heavy figure, you should find a dress that skims over the lower half of the body. Fuller skirts cover heavy hips, while showing off the waist. Choose a fitted halter or strapless silhouette, which emphasizes a trim upper body.
Flabby arms
Dresses with lantern sleeves, puff sleeves, kimono or bracelet sleeves are flattering for ladies with flabby arms.
Petite
To flatter a smaller frame, choose a dress with a lot of shape. Stay away from too-cutesy looks, like puffed sleeves, so you won’t look little girlish.
Plus size
Just because your figure has curves doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a pretty sleeveless dress. Try a dress with an allover print, as it will make your body look thinner.
Unattractive legs
If you don’t want to show off your legs, you can still look great in a dress, instead of hiding your legs in pants. Choose a longer skirt (midcalf or longer) for a flattering look.
Wide shoulders
If your shoulders are wide, you don’t need to hide your upper body. Instead, choose body-balancing details like a trendy asymmetrical neckline. Stay away from puffy sleeves or voluminous tops paired with slim bottoms, as they will make your shoulder look even wider.
Thick waist
You can disguise a thick waist by either raising, lowering or eliminating the waistline, as this will skim your body without defining the waist. You can also go for a drop-waist dress, which hits somewhere around the hipbones, or empire waist dresses which have a raised waist to flatter a thick waist.
Full bust
The V-necks, square necks or wrap styles are the most flattering necklines for the full bust. Choose fabrics that skim (jersey is good), and avoid those that are clingy or too stiff. As well, stay away from ornate necklines, embellished bodices and blouson styles.
Small bust
To add more volume up top, you should look for embellishment or fullness on the bust. An empire waist dress that features a gathered bodice, allover print and a cap sleeve will flatter your figure, giving the illusion of a wider shoulder and more substantial upper body.
